Criminal Court Cases in Rowan County
North Carolina uses one General Court of Justice, but the Rowan County criminal docket is divided by court level. District Court hears misdemeanors, traffic matters, infractions, and the first steps in many felony cases. Superior Court has felony trial jurisdiction and hears misdemeanor appeals for a new trial. Rowan County Case Record Searches
Use the channel that fits the record needed. Portal is useful for a quick case location. A courthouse public terminal offers a free, noncertified search and can query criminal cases by defendant name, case number, or victim or witness name. The terminal can search Rowan County alone or search statewide, and results may be viewed or emailed. Printing may carry a charge. Paper and electronic files at the clerk counter fill gaps left by either screen.

Rowan County Courts by Charge
A misdemeanor usually stays in Rowan County District Court for plea or trial. A felony begins with criminal process and early District Court proceedings, then reaches Superior Court through indictment or another authorized path. The District Attorney reviews the prosecution. Superior Court arraignment, pretrial work, plea or trial, judgment, and sentence become parts of the Rowan County case record.
North Carolina labels felonies from Class A through I and misdemeanors from Class A1 through 3. A label shown in Portal is only one part of the result. “Disposed” means the case or charge reached an end. It does not, by itself, mean guilty. Readers moving from an arrest event to the filed prosecution can compare the separate Rowan County arrest search, but the court judgment controls the court outcome.
Rowan County Clerk Paper Cases
When Portal is thin, go to the Rowan County Clerk. The working courthouse is at 210 North Main Street, Salisbury, NC 28144. Published hours are weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the clerk number is 704-797-3001. The Liberty Street public entrance has ramps. Visitors pass through a metal detector and search. Cameras, cell-phone cameras, tape recorders, knives, firearms, ammunition, mace, and other listed items are prohibited. A local device order also applies.
At the counter, identify the case number when possible and ask to inspect the public paper or electronic case file. Older or non-digitized Rowan County court records may require an archive or paper search. Copies cost a fee, but the research did not locate an exact Rowan per-page rate. Criminal Case Stages in Rowan County
A Rowan County criminal case may begin with an arrest, citation, complaint, or other criminal process. A magistrate handles early process, probable cause, and release conditions. Rowan County Certified Court Search
AOC-CR-314 requests a certified name-based search from the Rowan County Clerk. It asks for the county, requester contact details, the searched name, identifying details such as date of birth, and clerk certification fields. The fee is $25. The result covers Rowan court records only. It is not an NCSBI fingerprint rap sheet and should not be treated as one.
The request can be delivered by mail or in person. Mailed requests require a money order or certified check; personal checks are not accepted. At the counter, accepted methods include credit card, cash, money order, or certified check. Confirm the latest form revision before sending it. A mailed certified search answers a different need from a free courthouse-terminal query. The terminal can search one county or statewide and produces a noncertified view. Access Rules for Case Records
North Carolina G.S. 7A-109 makes clerk records open for public inspection unless another law restricts access. Chapter 132 also governs public records, inspection at reasonable times, and copy formats.
